Day 7 - Time to go home… BOOOOOOO

24 08 2006

So, that’s it then… the end of the holiday. :(
We got up reasonably early and headed down to catch a breakfast in the buffet breakfast place downstairs. I’m glad we only did it the one time as the food wasn’t very good. Bryan went a strange shade of green. I couldn’t figure out if it was the prospect of going home, or the food he’d consumed.

So, after breakfast (if you could call it that), we headed back upstairs because it was still bloody early, and tried to sleep a bit more. I had been awake since 6am, and couldn’t get to sleep… so went out on the balcony and read my book.

Eventually, we packed and managed to get checked out at 12, which left us 2 and a half hours to pass. We headed down to the restaurant on the marina where we had lunch on day 1, and drank LARGE soft-drinks and I had a mozarella & tomato salad (Bryan still feeling the effects of breakfast)
Eventually, the guy from the transfer service came to pick us up at the hotel. Well… what can be said but ‘Oh my god!!!’. He kept on trying to talk to us in the back seat… about various things such as drugs, drinking, speaking other languages (which he clearly couldn’t do) and other bad things… but NOT watching the bloody road. He was swerving all over the place. I’ve never been so scared in all my life! He also told us that Ibiza worked in cash… and then proceded to wave €4500 in our faces. We had to make a detour to drop the cash off at his house. Now… I don’t know about you, but I don’t think all taxi drivers have that kinda money lying about, so I’m fairly certain he was doing a little ’side-lining’ if you know what I mean ;) ;) ;)

We then had a very long journey via Madrid. Madrid airport is one of the fanciest, and nicest airports I have ever been in. Really swich glass features all over the place… but not too good if you’re epileptic… you’d have a seizure as soon as you walked into arrivals! Very flashy!

After the flights came the horrible tube journey from Heathrow to Holoway Road. Before which we had to go through Passport Control at Heathrow… what a pain in the arse that was!

So now we’re back in London… have 24 and a bit hours before we go up to Edinburgh… so we’re just gonna kick back and relax for a bit!

Here’s to Ibiza… I’d definitely go back!!!!

Day 6 - River Walks and final Sea Swims!

22 08 2006

Well, our last full day in Sunny Ibiza!

We got up and headed to the only river in the Baleriacs, which is I suppose quite something and maybe worth a look. Lets put it this way, if you´re planning on coming to St Eulalia, don´t bother with the river… it´s not that pretty. I have very rarely seen Bryan worry about his surroundings… he was worried, this walk was dodgy. The thing is though, as soon as you come out into the resort area, it´s lovely again. Perhaps it´s the dodgy side of Ibiza we were witnessing!
The only fabby thing we saw were 2 baby ducks swimming about in a muddy pool of water. Very cute!

We came back to the hotel and headed to the beach for our last sea-swim. The water was quite muddy, but didn´t bother us. Water is so warm here.

Back to the hotel for a nap and then off to a restaurant in the Marina. Unfortunately, Bryan didn´t enjoy his stripped beef main meal… but my meal was lovely. Started with Clams (Fisherman Style) and then Sea-Bass in a garlic sauce.

So that was the last full day :(

Must dash… have to go catch my bus to the airport!

Bollocking foreign banks!!!

21 08 2006

I went to a cash machine today… it ate my card!
Not the kind of thing you want to happen when you´re on holiday! So yeah, I´m using my backup now! Good ol´credit card and the love of my life saving my bacon to!

I´ll say it again! BOLLOCKING FOREIGN BANKS!!!!

Day 5 - Relaxations and ´knobheads´ by the pool

21 08 2006

So we got up at our usual time of about 12 and decided today would be a good day to sit by the pool all day… so we did. Being a Sunday, shops close early… so lunch consisted of quish and lays crisps. I eventually went down to the beach to have a swim in the Med… which was lovey. I quite enjoy the sea-swimming thing, but cannot get used to the idea that (a) there are things that can bite and sting you not that far away… and (b) there is poo not that far away either.

Eventually, we went down to the Se Llesca restaurant at the Marina. It was recommended by a Gay Ibiza guide. The food was lovely, and wine much nicer than the shit we had the night before at a lovely Chinese restaurant in the restaurant street.
Lets just say I now stink of garlic! Waking up this morning wasn´t nice… it was like waking up with a clove in my mouth.

After dinner we tooko a stroll along the promenade with some gorgeous ice-cream from the ice-cream parlour. I had Tiramisu & After-eight… Bryan had a flavour I can´t remember… but he´ll correct me when he reads this later!

So, that was day 5… one more full day to go!

PS: I just discovered an internet shop… tons cheaper than the hotel! www.ibi.com
PPS: While at the pool, a kid came running up to his parents crying. Apparently he had his head bashed on the side of the pool by his brother. Th whole pool-side burst into laughter when he screamed at a rather loud volume, “He´s a knobhead!!!”

Spelling

19 08 2006

Yes, I know my spelling sucks. I’ll fix it when I’m home. At 1 euro for ten minutes of internet time, I’m typing at full speed!

Day 4 - Beach Bums and Maxibon Cookies!

19 08 2006

The weather has finally returned to its full burning glory!!!!

After getting up a little late, we wondered down to the ‘breakfast’ place and had a full english (bad I know), and then had a walk along the Promenade where Bryan remembered going when he was younger. The view from the cliff at the top of the hill at the end of the prom was amazing, pics to follow in the gallery… and memories of youthful moments came back to Bryan in full force.
It was unbearably hot though, so we made a hasty retreat to the hotel for our swimming stuff, and then off to the beach. The water was clean as tap water and swimming with the fish was good fun. I went all the way out to the buoy on my inflatable ring. I nearly shat myself though… never been so scared of anything in my life. I kept on hearing the Jams themetune and thought I saw jellyfish everywhere I turned. I relaxed though, and paddled back to the safety of my towel on the beach where we ate Maxibon cookie Ice-Creams in the belting sun while watching little kids killing fish in their buckets. Strangely amusing.

After a few hours, the heat was getting to us so we came back to the air-conditioned hotel for a drink. Bryan relaxed upstairs while I had a swim in the pool downstairs and sat for a while listening to my iPod.

So here I am… i’ll shoot upstairs now and have another glass of wine, and then we’ll tootle off for dinner somewhere.

You’d be proud of me parents… I haven’t eaten dinner in the same place more than once since we got here. I’m trying plenty of new things!!!

Day 3 - Hash Machines and Boat Trips

19 08 2006

Today we woke up a little earlier than most other days and hopped onto the boat to Ibiza Town. The trip takes 1 hours and is stunning! The views are amazing. The boat makes one stop in a little cove which has turquoise blue water, you can see the fish and other marine life swimming around below you!!!

Ibiza Town was nice. It had a lovely Cathedral up on a hill overlooking the town harbour and natives below. It is a fair hike to get to the top of the hill, but well worth it. You can see the airport from up there, but B wouldn’t let me watch an airplave come in… nasty… nasty! (Just kidding love :) )

We had a nice meal in a small square just outside the town wall. The people meandered around us eating over-sized peaches and laughing at the holiday makers paying inflated prices for things they couldn’t pronounce.

We had one of those huge peaches as well, washed clean by a little fountain next to the piazza. Amazing flavour and really juicy!

We then took a walk around the old town and back to the harbour for the 15:30 trip back to St. Eulalia.

After getting back and having a sleep for 3 hours, we went for dinner to a little restaurant at the marina. We didn’t get served and eventually had 1 menu practically thrown at us, so we left and found another place which was wonderful. Best (and most expensive) meal of the holiday so far.We had a lovely waitress who looked after us (she was from Wimbledon), and after a while I started to feel like Shirley Valentine. All the waitress needed to do was offer to move our table to the shore and I would probably have died laughing!

So that was day 3… really good :)

PS: ‘Hash Machines’ explained … we were offered Hash after being in Ibiza Town for about 10 minutes. I was getting cash from the cash machine and the guy thought I was going to buy from him. I thought he was offereing a good exchange rate for money or something and said to him, ‘No, I’m getting it from here.’
He looked very confused.

Day 2 - Cruddy weater and Irish Ladies!

17 08 2006

Woke up late again this morning - not that I’m moaning, and went over for something to eat at a small restaurant down at the marina. Felt a bit guilty as it was an English Breakfast!

Wandered up to the local church which sits high up on a hill above Saint Eulalia. It was lovely, and the views were great. It was a very solemn place, filled with gravestones and interred remains. Very deep in history and you gain a lot of respect for the local culture.

After that, we went off to the beach, but the weather today was crap. A little rainy. I still managed to get a few minutes swimming in and used my goggles to explore the sea-bed for a bit. Not a single creature did I see!

Tonight’s dinner was a Thai restaurant. I had a Squid Stir Fry and Bryan had Crispy Duck. Mine was lovely, although a little too spicy.. and Bryan inhaled his… so assume that he enjoyed it :)

Tonight we came back to the hotel and had a little drink out at the pool. We started a conversation up with a lovely Irish Lady and her friend. Really nice to speak to someone who doesn’t think you’re going to try and kill them.

That’s today in a nutshell. Was really relaxing and hopefully, tomorrow the sun will be out!

Day 1 - Flight and Beached Whales…

16 08 2006

The flight was like any other really, we dadn’t have any trouble in Heathrow, and managed to check in after about an hour (about normal for us). The only change being that you have to remove your shoes when going through the scanners.

On the plane to Valentia, it was another matter. Now, i am not prejudiced, but after the cr@p that has been going on lately, the last thing you want to happen is for some guy missing a thumb, ready Muslim scripture type books and looking around nervously… to sit right next to you! Yes, I am ashamed to admit it, I wet myself! No, I shat myself!

Anyway, after about 3 hours of worrying about when he was going to pull 5 kilos of C4 out of his bag, we landed safely and got off the plane (THANK GOD!!!).
So, that was one flight down, one to go. A short 25 minute hop from Valentia to Ibiza. What could go wrong? I’ll tell you what! Landing in Ibiza was the scariest landing ever! I couldn’t see a thing out the window, it was like landing on water! And… to top it all off, there was smoke coming from the vents! It was nothing apparently, so we got off the plane and came to the airport in our taxi.

The hotel is lovely, very new(ish) and cool. Air-conditioning in the room and a lovely view.

Today, we went for lunch and then tootled off to the local ‘tat’ shop to try and find beach-towels (too heavy to carry on plane). Found then, bought some basic neccessities (wine) and headed back to the hotel.

I’ve also bought one of those inflatable ring things for the sea. Bryan and I spent a few hours on the beach (a shock to some of you), swimming and reading. It was lovely and I really do feel like I’m on holiday now.

Ibiza really isn’t the shithole the media plays it out to be. It’s quite a laid back, relaxing and sunny place. The beach we were on wasn’t crowded, like Gran Canaria, and it wasn’t dirty either.

So the plan is to beach again tomorrow… maybe hire a pedallo (with a slide!!!) and go out a bit further than we did today swimming. We might even hire a jetski (4o euro… 15 minutes!!!).

So, so far, having a fab time swimming, eating, getting a little drunk and relaxing in the sun with the man of my life by my side. People should write books about me… they’d make millions!

Love to you all!

Guilty as charged…

13 08 2006

Most people that know me, know that I hate Apple. I have no particular reason for hating them, I just think their OS is wank!
I have a confession to make. I have made a move to the other side… I now own an Ipod.

First impressions are very good actually. I quite like the idea of podcasts… and found a great MP3 website www.allofmp3.com.

So, to all of you who are laughing at me, I apologise for letting you down.
