Day 1 - Flight and Beached Whales…

August 16, 2006

The flight was like any other really, we dadn’t have any trouble in Heathrow, and managed to check in after about an hour (about normal for us). The only change being that you have to remove your shoes when going through the scanners.

On the plane to Valentia, it was another matter. Now, i am not prejudiced, but after the cr@p that has been going on lately, the last thing you want to happen is for some guy missing a thumb, ready Muslim scripture type books and looking around nervously… to sit right next to you! Yes, I am ashamed to admit it, I wet myself! No, I shat myself!

Anyway, after about 3 hours of worrying about when he was going to pull 5 kilos of C4 out of his bag, we landed safely and got off the plane (THANK GOD!!!).
So, that was one flight down, one to go. A short 25 minute hop from Valentia to Ibiza. What could go wrong? I’ll tell you what! Landing in Ibiza was the scariest landing ever! I couldn’t see a thing out the window, it was like landing on water! And… to top it all off, there was smoke coming from the vents! It was nothing apparently, so we got off the plane and came to the airport in our taxi.

The hotel is lovely, very new(ish) and cool. Air-conditioning in the room and a lovely view.

Today, we went for lunch and then tootled off to the local ‘tat’ shop to try and find beach-towels (too heavy to carry on plane). Found then, bought some basic neccessities (wine) and headed back to the hotel.

I’ve also bought one of those inflatable ring things for the sea. Bryan and I spent a few hours on the beach (a shock to some of you), swimming and reading. It was lovely and I really do feel like I’m on holiday now.

Ibiza really isn’t the shithole the media plays it out to be. It’s quite a laid back, relaxing and sunny place. The beach we were on wasn’t crowded, like Gran Canaria, and it wasn’t dirty either.

So the plan is to beach again tomorrow… maybe hire a pedallo (with a slide!!!) and go out a bit further than we did today swimming. We might even hire a jetski (4o euro… 15 minutes!!!).

So, so far, having a fab time swimming, eating, getting a little drunk and relaxing in the sun with the man of my life by my side. People should write books about me… they’d make millions!

Love to you all!
